5 Tips For Saving Money When Shopping For Clothes

Whether young or old, we all like to look our best and shopping for clothes, shoes and accessories is one of life’s little pleasures for many. However, with people cutting their cloth (sorry for the pun!) according to their means at the moment, buying new clothes can sometimes feel like a luxury we can ill afford. That doesn’t mean that buying clothes has to be something we no longer do as there are many ways to enjoy new trends and fashion without breaking the bank.

1. A great way to gain a new look for free is to hold a “swishing” party with your friends. Everyone brings an item or two (or more) they no longer want, maybe some shoes, a belt, a dress or a bag and then “swishes” or swaps them for another item. It’s a good idea to settle on how many items you will all bring as it is unfortunate if one friend brings a huge bag full and another brings one item! For the price of a few nibbles and drinks, you and your friends can get themselves a whole new look for free and also have an inexpensive fun evening trying on new outfits!

2. Shopping at charity/thrift shops and boot sales can uncover a whole new load of fashion treasures for mere pennies. The last thing people want to do when holding a boot sale is take all their items home with them, so there are many bargains to be had. I recently picked up a new suit from Mexx, complete with tags, for £1! The seller bought it on impulse and was just happy to get rid of it. Charity shops can also give you a great new look for less. My sister was looking for a winter coat recently but at £50 on the High Street, they were out of her reach. A trip to her local charity shop uncovered a great cream wool coat for less than £7! And her purchase also raised cash for a local good cause.

3. If you are lucky enough to have a local market, you will probably find traders who sell clothes and accessories for a fraction of the cost of those sold by the large retailers. These stalls are great for picking up items such as scarves, fashion jewellery and bags which can update your look. Our local market sells scarves and pashminas for a fiver for two, which can instantly transform an outfit.

4. If you are talented with a needle or own a sewing machine, why not consider making or customising your own clothes rather than buying new? With fashion gurus such as Gok Wan showing you how to transform an outfit for a few pounds, it is something which can be done at home with little outlay. A packet of dye and some string can transform a t shirt into a tie dye marvel. Or a few fabric flowers sewn on can update a dress or skirt instantly. If you are more serious, patterns and fabric can be found at most charity or craft/sewing shops.

5. A way of making fashion affordable is to consider a catalogue. A favourite of many women in 1970’s/1980’s, catalogues are now a very popular way to update your look and spread the cost. Many stars such as Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby have their own fashion lines in catalogues. Many catalogues also offer an incentive such as 10% off your first order if you purchase. Obviously only consider a catalogue if you are able to pay it off each month.

Hopefully these tips will show that fashion can remain affordable and give you a few new ideas when next considering a new outfit!

The Benefits of Shopping For Clothes Online

For many of us, sale time on the high street is a welcome occasion, and with each sale comes the opportunity to breathe new life into our outdated wardrobes with some of the very welcome bargains on offer.

You would be crazy to turn down the opportunity to buy some fantastic fashions at downright unbeatable prices… wouldn’t you?

Whilst the prospect of getting physical with hundreds of other keen bargain hunters may be appealing to some, for a lot of people, (like me!) sales are a great excuse to stay at home.

For those who aren’t die hard sales veterans (with the scars to prove it!) there is a completely stress and aggression free alternative when it comes to clothes shopping. Shopping for clothes on line now has such a wide margin of benefits compared to traditional bricks and mortar shopping that if you so chose, there is no actual reason for you to venture into a physical shop.

Also, unlikely as it sounds, there are actually more compelling reasons for shopping for clothes on line than for heading to the shops. Come sale time, it’s entirely possible to shop for sale items and take advantage of the same fantastic bargains and discounts, without the hustle and bustle and without the frayed tempers.

Shop for your clothes on line and you can still browse and check sizes and availability ahead of the sale to ensure that when the sale actually starts, you are already pre-armed with your shopping list.

The benefits of shopping for your clothes on line don’t just appear at sales time either. The crippling cost of retail space on the high street means that only the safest sure fire best sellers that the fashion buyers want you to buy will be promoted in their stores. This leaves a very limited amount of retail space to push all of their exciting styles and trends. The answer once again is to present their entire collection on line.

In taking the decision to shop on line, in the comfort of your own home, you also get to use all of the great online features, such as searching and categorising by gender, by size, by colour, by style, by occasion (casual or formal), by price (ascending or descending) as well as some other great features such as zoom and pan features, online videos of the latest catwalk fashions, and finally, many retailers offer some very attractive and payment options.

You might never be the person who chooses to shop online as your first choice and you may actually enjoy the buzz of elbow room only sales floors, but once you weigh up the pro’s and con’s of shopping for your clothes on line compared to traditional bricks and mortar retailers, the benefits of a stress free shopping trip in your armchair begin to look more and more attractive.

With the same sales, the same reductions and the same discounts but with a whole lot more choice, you won’t be seeing me downtown anytime soon.

Happy Shopping

Spending money on things you don’t necessarily need will eventually leave you broke.

Get to know each section of the store. Don’t keep on zigzagging from department to department. A lot of what you would see while shopping in a mall or department store you can also find at Goodwill. The signs will show you where the different items for men, women, and kids are.

Saving Money When Shopping For Clothes Online

Many of us shop for clothing online. We may do so because we believe that we can find the very best deals by shopping in this way. But how does the reality compare to these hopes? Do we always find the bargains that we’re expecting?

I’ve been shopping online for a number of years. I buy all sorts of products and services. There is no doubt in my mind that a key reason for buying in this way is because I’m looking to make significant savings. This isn’t the only factor that important to me, of course.

I also like the convenience of being able to shop from my home or office. It saves me from having to drive to the nearest department stores. For those of you living in smaller towns, there is an added benefit associated with shopping via the Internet.

If you’re having to rely on shopping in a high street that simply doesn’t have very many stores, then you’ll know the frustration that comes from having such a limited amount of choice. You simply don’t have access to the range of products that are available online.

Coming back to the issue of cost, it’s clear that this lack of access to a range of buying opportunities may also limit your chances of finding competitively priced clothing products. This combination of choice, convenience and the ability to find cheaper deals helps explain why an increasing number of people shop for clothes via the Internet.

But how can you really take full advantage of the benefits on offer? I believe that you simply must be making use of price comparison websites. These provide an extremely quick and easy way to identify retailers who consistently offer low prices on a wide range of products.

I rarely make a purchase without first checking such a site. By doing so, I know that I’ll be made aware if I could be getting a better deal elsewhere. It only takes a minute to check and I think this is time extremely well spent.

But what other tools can you make use of in order to maximise your savings? More consumers are now waking up to the savings that they can make by using discount codes. Such vouchers, offered by an ever growing army of retailers, allow us to make even greater savings when shopping at online stores.

I’d certainly suggest that you should bookmark a decent directory listing valid discount codes, coupons and vouchers. Doing so could help you to save even more money when shopping for the latest fashionable garments.
